Goal-based investing - The Investor’s Rubicon: When in 49 BC Julius Caesar crossed the shallow Rubicon River into Italy, he knew he would start a full-out civil war. It’s a kind of perish-or-conquer move retail investors know very well. In our series of papers entitled ‘The Investor’s Rubicon’ we focus on the experience of goal setting and goal pursuit. Based on the results of a survey among 2.282 Dutch and Belgian investors, we describe how investors perform tasks along the ‘Rubicon model of action phases’. Part 1 is all about setting investment goals.
